About us

PRSIt’s easy to take music for granted. We’re so used to having it around, sometimes we don’t even think about it. TV shows, online videos, bars, clubs, even the radio playing at the hairdressers: we forget that, at some point, someone has put serious effort into creating something special.

At PRS for Music, we never forget. We play a unique role at the centre of the music industry, helping business and community groups get access to the music they need, while making sure the people who created the music are rightfully rewarded for their creativity, so they can keep on creating.

We’re here for music creators

PRS for Music is a collective of 60,000 songwriters, composers and music publishers. We exist to ensure that our members receive songwriting royalties whenever their music is played, performed or reproduced.

We’re home to some of the world’s best songwriters, composers and music publishers, which represents over 10 million songs in every imaginable musical genre – from folk to classical to cyber-girl pop.

It’s this music that makes an emotional connection with audiences. And it’s music that generates wealth for our business customers.

That’s why we’re passionate believers in the principle of delivering a vital income to music creators through songwriting royalties.

We’re here for music users

Our members create some of the world's best loved music. PRS for Music facilitates access to that music for use in a variety of spaces and places, from TV programmes, to online businesses, to live gig venues - and every possibility in between.

We do this in a variety of spaces and places, from TV programmes to YouTube to a radio in the workplace – and every possibility in between. .

Helping the creators keep on creating

PRS for Music is a non-profit organisation. Every country has an organisation like ours, which exists for the same reason. We pride ourselves in having some of the lowest overheads of any royalty collecting society in the world. By minimising deductions, we are able to pay our members almost 90% of the revenue we collect.

Songwriting royalties provide a vital source of income for songwriters and composers, rewarding them for the works they’ve created and helping them to continue creating music for us all to enjoy.

We're also proud to support the charity we established, the PRS Foundation. Through the Foundation, we're able to support a huge range of music activity, including band showcases, residencies and classical commissions. For more information about the PRS Foundation see prsfoundation.co.uk.

While the PRS Members’ Fund enables us to help members and their dependents who are in need of financial support.
